End of Another Decade

As the year 2009 is about to end, I’m thinking it’s not just another year, it’s a decade coming to an end. Just made me think what have I done in this decade?

To sum up the decade, here is the list of things that happened to me in the decade about to end:

2000 -Graduated from Unversity of Calcutta, BSC in Botany.

2001 - My elder brother got his job. Very good news but then he had to move away from us.  :(

2002 - Completed my post-grad, topped my department.

2003 - Registerd for my Ph. D.

2004 - Got my first job as SEO trainee. Got the taste of SEO as link developer for 3SmartCubes.com. Created record by being first girl from my family to actually work.

2005 – Promoted to post of SEO Analyst. Dropped my Ph. D plans. It seemed to be going nowhere!

2006 - Life is full of suprises!!! Made a friend out of the blue, and he became my bestest friend. 31st march is a red letter day in my calendar! Started my blog.

2007 - Confessed my love for my sweetheart! The most unforgettable year of my life till date!

Passed my Diplome Superieur (French).

2008 – Last saw my sweetheart.

2009 - A very eventful year!!! My younger brother went abroad. My elder brother got married. Lost too many near and dear ones! The losses were accompanied with new members joining the family as spouses of cousins. But overall for me it’s been the Worst year of the decade. It’s been a very lonely and long year! And THE WAIT doesn’t seem to end!  :(

In the last ten years my life has changed a lot and that goes the same for me too!! I have drastically changed from a timid soft-spoken girl to a bold and confident woman! I hope I have changed for the better.

As the new year and decade starts, I just wish my dreams and wishes come true.

3 Idiots – Review

Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller Five Point Someone, the film “3 Idiots” redefines idiot as ‘I Do It On My Own Terms’. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the movie is begins with Farhan(R. Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) setting off on a journey in search of their lost friend Ranchoddas Shaymaldas Chajaad (Aamir Khan) who leaves college all of sudden. The story of three friends is told in flashback by Farhan, beginning with the three arriving at a premier engineering institute to start their course. The movie has its share of hilarious moments in the first half. But the end stretches a bit too long. Kareena Kapoor as Pia dazzles with her brief role, and even though a lot of her spunk seems significantly in the track of Jab We Met.  And as  with all characters Aamir  makes everything look so easy and spontaneous. The chemistry between the Aamir, Madhavan and Sharmaan reminds of Rang De Basanti. Overall a good movie  - a story of friendship, hope, aspirations and most importantly, the goodness of life.
The only question still running in my mind is…why does Aamir still has to play a fresh-faced student even after 21 years debuting as the student on his last day of college? C’mon Amir..it’s time to graduate!

My Favorite Chrome Extensions

Just as you can with Firefox,  you can now power up Chrome by installing add-ons that improve the functionality of the app and boost your productivity. The best thing is that it is so very easy to do, not even requiring a restart to add, deactivate or uninstall new extensions. Best of all, they don’t seem to impact the performance of Chrome. Sorry FF,  I changed my loyalty.

My fave 5 are:
1. Chromed Bird – best twitter extension for Chrome. It’s fast, light and relatively powerful. You can access home, mentions and direct messages. Plus it give you flexibility to reply, retweet and direct message users.
2. Google Mail Checker Plus – Earlier I was using Google Mail Checker, but with plus version available, this is a hot fave. You can preview, delete, archive or spam your unread mail without going into your inbox. You need a bit of work in the options to get going. But at least now I can have one tab less on my browser.
3. Chrome Muse – simple, effective and lets you use a dozen URL shortening services – bit.ly, tinyurl, goo.gl. Only drawback – no Twitter integration. For that you can use Goo.gl. It lets you shorten the links that can be shared with your friends on Twitter and other places.
4. Adthwart – this extension blocks unwanted ads.  Simple and it’s very easy to switch the ads on and off.
5. Facebook for Google Chrome – lets you read your Facebook news feed and wall. You can also update your status by clicking on your profile picture.

As I was completing this post, I discovered one great extension, so this list now becomes my Top 6 Chrome Extensions:
6. Google Quick Scroll – While doing a Google Search, when you navigate to a site, a clickable popup at the bottom of the screen shows you how many times the searched keyword shows up on the page with its locations. Neat!

Bondhu Tomay (To You My Friend)

I know I know..many would be surprised by the title and would be trying to decipher it. Well it’s the title of a bangla (yes that’s the right name of the language Bengali) song by the band Chandrabindoo. While I was working out today morning, I heard this song on the radio and just couldn’t help humming along with the song. To be honest, I had never been interested in the Bangla bands (except for one case, but that’s a different story), but this song really gripped me. The song kept on playing in mind all day long and I kept humming it too and I finally I had to download ! The song is about old school and college days, the carefree days of fun and frolic we have with friends, the stupid things we do, which we will miss all our life. Very lovely song. Wish someone could translate the lyrics to English, so that people who do not understand bangla can also comprehend the song. Anyone?

Chrome Extensions Are Now Live

Google Chrome Extensions, which were earlier just for developers, are now live for everybody! Google chrome was launched with around 300 extensions.

I have been waiting for Chrome extensions for long and the only reason I stuck to using Firefox is of the huge galore of extensions available. Now..I am shifting ful time to Google Chrome! However, the extensions only work on Windows and Linux (in beta) for now. To install extensions you need to have Beta Channel of Google Chrome. The launch of Chrome extensions coincided with the launch of Chrome browser for Mac users, (finally they too got lucky ). Let me checkout the extensions gallery if they have come up with my Firefox favorite add-ons or their equivalents!
